Frolicon is a convention that is a lot of fun; it's a crossover between a science fiction convention and a BDSM convention. painless_j	11:52p	Happy belated birthday, Viki! Here's some music for you: three songs each from four bands and singers I love. The files are at Box.net, which means (for those unfamiliar with it) that you can listen to the songs as well as download them. Mylene Farmer. I can't help loving her songs even when they are kitchy 'cos the woman is so artistic. I love her videos too! California Je te rends ton amour L'ame-stram-gram My beloved Rammstein released a new album. I can't say I loved all of it (I never do though) but I liked half of the songs. Fruhling in Paris -- this one is the best, as for me, from this album. Also, Till singing in foreign languages is sexy :) Here he sings in French. Rammlied -- the opening song of the album and yet another version of Rammstein including their own name in their song. Fun! And quite strong. Pussy -- the notorious Pussy, the one of the NC-17 video, with which R+ came back after their years of silence. My beloved Pulp. I know you know and like some songs of theirs. Do you like their Separations though? It's one of their first albums and still my favourite of theirs. Actually, this was the album that turned me from classical music to pop and rock :) I don't like what Jarvis Cocker does now and didn't like even their last album with Pulp. IMO it lost all their earlier vitality. But still, they hold a very special place in my heart :) Separations, the title song. Don't You Want Me Anymore -- a bit morbid, more than a bit ironic and role-playing, and all-in-all wonderful melodically. Acryllic Afternoons, from His'n'Hers. And my beloved The Cranberries. I swear, I listen to Dolores O'Riordan mewl and scream while trying not to hear the lyrics. She's, to put it mildly, not a good poet. But her energy! Her voice! ac1d6urn	7:30p	RPGs, the other collaborative fiction sinick, devious RPG-dwelling creature that she is, has introduced me to my current addiction: the RPG called Breaking Point, which has a few interesting twists. It's 2024 in Harry Potter world. Suddenly, wizards from the past are popping up all over the place as if they'd Apparated through time instead of space Resurrected wizards include Tom Riddle, Death Eaters, and Grindelwald. Chaos, and mayhem ensues. Everyone panics1. My previous experience with role-playing games included tossing dice and crunching numbers for stats in table tops, beating Sephiroth, leveling up a horde of Oblivion characters, and avoiding chat transcripts of the 'I put on my wand and my wizard hat' kind. Now, I play Albus Severus Potter. I am not the first player to take him on, and he's had some interesting biography facts handed down: He's a Ravenclaw reporter-wannabe. It was the book canon's fault that he is a thoughtful, quiet second son that is close to his Dad and looks just like him It was my fault alone when in the process of tweaking his bio, I made Al into a list-loving dork, an equal proportion mix of Sherlock Holmes, Sheldon Cooper, and pre-Pon Farr Spocklet. Imagine, if you will, a short Clark Kent, sans the Superman suit3 underneath. Without the slightest possibility of there ever being a Superman suit. What is there instead is curiosity and logic. This RPG is fun! Everything went rather well for Al in his neat information bubble reinforced with books and newspapers, until his brother was cursed and Al witnessed (and helped) Snape save him. After some careful analysis of the situation, he concluded that Snape was a logical and rational creature worthy of interest and interaction. Of course I should mention that Snape only tolerated Al seasoning his cauldrons until he learned what Al does for a crust.   "What is this? A reporter? OMIGODYOUREETASKEETERU!!!!111"   Well, maybe he said it with a bit more character and a bit less emo. Sinick plays him and she watches her exclamation marks, as well as the emo. Then Al suddenly declared to his dad that Severus Snape was the best thing that happened to them since sliced bread and gave his father, the Ever Suffering Boy Who Lived, an intellectual finger and a few new gray hairs in the process. It all went from there.   Soon into playing Al I realized a few things about collaborative writing RPGs: Your character gains depth as they interact with others and they never stop changing as a person In character driven writing, strong plots help, a lot Ask the players involved before sending your character to walk around poking others' characters, most likely they'll laugh and let you There's no beta-readers. Get the words out while the reaction's still fresh in your head and let the others do the same. There will be typos and missed commas. It's good for Practicing to write dialogue driven conversations Discovering the importance of speech patterns (you discover early on that you hear how your character sounds and whether they're tired, happy, or angry when they say it) Rapidly producing a large body of text that would drive any sane beta reader nuts with errors It's bad for Constant POV storytelling. It jumps like a ping-pong ball all over, unless one of the players consciously maintains distance. Strict control over the characters, you never know who'll show up, and where they'll drag you next Procrastination purposes. It'll eat up your spare time, and take a huge chunk out of sleep time too, beware. So, here you go, RPGs for fiction writers, in a nutshell. If you want to join us, there's still plenty of characters left to resurrect, play, and puppeteer, such as Luna, Pansy, Bellatrix, the Lestranges, or whoever else comes to mind up to and including each one of the giant squid's tentacles (he is giant, and multi-limbed, he deserves multiple accounts, I say.) 1. And has hot, meaningless sex2, if you're into that sort of thing 2. Except for Dumbledore, who is just happy that his (boy)friend's back 3. Note, if your mind jumped to Clark Kent in his birthday suit, I am not responsible, it's all your mind's fault. Stop now. Proceed with reading.   (Comment on this)

Because if I'm reading the time stamps on my last 3 posts, I've written four fics in 24 hours. !?!?!?! I've been feeling sick today and therefore unmotivated to do "real work" but... four fics??? Four pairings?? I thought I was going to write a few drabbles today, but each fic has been longer than the previous! Yes, I am nuts. However, I'm also going to sleep now. Enjoy the insanity while it lasts! :-) Snowflake Fic #4: Hind Sight For sra_danvers Snape/Harry, NC-17 Word Count: 1938 Summary: A few years after the war, Snape is living on a remote mountainside alone when he gets a very unexpected visitor: Harry Potter. I wasn't supposed to survive. I know this. I was supposed to sacrifice myself just like the boy was. Meanwhile we would be saving the lives and souls of the likes of the Malfoys. Why did it never occur to me that Dumbledore's plan ensured the life of the purebloods and the expense of all the half-bloods? I count myself surprised now that Hagrid survived as well, though perhaps his survival had less to do with Dumbledore's plans and more to do with his own resourcefulness, much like mine. Draco charmed the door open with his wand in hand. No such thing as too careful, even though he knew it was Potter at the door. Potter himself set him up in this secret lab; no one else knew of its existence. Potter, too, had his wand in hand, and his hair was even wilder than usual. His eyes, too. Draco frowned. "What's wrong?" "Who said anything's wrong?" Potter shoved his wand into the Ministry-approved sleeve holster. "I came because I got your owl." Draco slipped his own wand into his sleeve with a bit more grace, wondering--hoping--that perhaps it could be the proximity to Draco himself that had Potter so flustered. Ogata/Touya, NC-17 Touya has this idea that sex is one of these things that will eventually happen without any effort on his part. He is too busy to think about the process, much less the goal, between his match schedule, tutoring, interviews, and so on. His parents are off in their own little world these days, traveling, living in China for months at a time; he knows at the very least he is years away from arranged marriage or any obligation like that. He has idle moments from time to time when he wonders how different life will be once he's done it. Everyone says it will be--everyone being manga and movies he also has no time for but he can't help but absorb the cultural messages in them. He has no reason to doubt this. He simply cannot imagine what it will be like, either the sex or life afterward. Mostly he does not try, but there are those moments when he looks at his peers and wonders who is, who isn't, who has, who hasn't. Shindou hasn't although Touya has heard his one attempt was a complete disaster with the girl next door. Shindou refuses to talk about it beyond blurting it out one day as an excuse for his poor play in a match; Touya had refused to speak to him for a week after that. Touya doesn't tolerate excuses. Since he can't imagine what it will be like or how it will happen, when it does happen, Touya is completely caught by surprise. ( Read more... ) (Comment on this)

swtalmnd	4:15p	Update! Because deep down I know you care... Really, really deep down. *cough* - I have 3 different fics that would be done if I could get my porn muse to cooperate. One that's my original santas_lap contribution, one that's a very overdue gift, and one that no one cares about but me. Heh. - Holiday cards have started coming in! My wall is getting festive. - Speaking of festive, I decorated! I posted photos to my RL blog, and can't figure out if y'all care enough to repost here. I'm going to go the lazy route and wait for someone to ask, I think. - Made one sale of holiday cards at Etsy, two to people I know IRL, and have a line on two more. Otherwise, Etsy has been a total flop, sigh. But there are zombie head stitch markers! How can someone not want to love those? One good thing about Etsy is that it's very cheap when things don't sell. - Sent out my cards for the HP Holiday Art Card Exchange. Will post after I'm sure they've been received! - Finished my own card design, and now I just need to spend a day printing, folding, writing in, addressing and stamping. Also need to do this for RL people. - A little behind on shopping, mostly due to lack of funds. Ah, well, something good will happen soon! Either that, or everyone else is just gettin' cards, dammit. XD Happy Holidays to you all -- I hear it's starting Hanukkah tonight, if that's your thing enjoy the candles and latkes!
